Winter Biking: 3 months, 2 weeks ago · ViewI love the commute come rain or shine….but in the winter you’ve got to think! How well do you know your route? Yeah I could tell you my route bend for bend…..I couldn’t tell you every wet, potenially icy manhole cover or the slightly depression in a road where black ice might lurk…you might see it on the winter morning commute but what about the dark ride home?
Basically winter time riding, slow it down a bit..wrap up warm, relax, enjoy but think!

From wet to freezing……why won’t the biking gods let me clean my bike?!?! Please give me something!!!
thats the problem with riding all year long the crap what comes of the roads. why don’t you wash your bike then cover it with wd40 it sticks to everything keeps all the crap of your bike and is easly washed off. there are other products out ther that do the same job. it saves your bike being one big ball off furry manky alluminium?

I always give a nod to members of the pack. It’s only right a proper! I don’t always get one back but then life is like that, and some people are rude. The best and most unexecpted reaction I got back was about 2 years ago by a teen on a 50cc scooter! I gave [...]

In reply to - mikethebike commented on the blog post How Should I Lubricate My Chain? Hi, if your chain is new and a professional grade ( never heard of this but suspect you mean heavy duty) It should have come pre greased in which case you simply fit it and use spray grease once a week on it for average [...] · View -

I know I can’t lubricate my chain with WD40…..I want to know if I should use it to remove any moisture and lift the rust spots BEFORE I use the proper Motorcycle chain wax I’ve got. (I have Tygris Motorcycle Chain Wax)
The Scott Oiler sounds like a good idea going forwards but funds are tight after Christmas.
The Chain Wax I have is a professional grade but I’m sure I shouldn’t put it straight on without doing some prep work with a penetrant, displacer and cleaner like WD40?In reply to - mikethebike commented on the blog post How Should I Lubricate My Chain? Exactly what Sophie said is correct but it seems you don’t do it regularly which you should, if you use the bike in all weathers i would recommend getting a scott oiler which is automatic and will keep it lubed as it should be….all you [...] · View -

Thanks Sophie!
It was while checking it yesterday that I noticed it had started to go….It’s been hammering it down and I’ve used it throughout the Xmas period. I’ve got some chain lube wax already I just wondered if the WD would help penetrate and clear the moisture and lift the rust before lubricating with the chain lube.
In reply to - Sophie Hawthorne commented on the blog post How Should I Lubricate My Chain? WD40 is a releasing fluid and is not suitable as a chain lube. You need to visit you’re local dealer or accessory shop and buy a good quality aerosol can of chain lube. I don’t know how long you’ve owned your bike but chain [...] · View -

I need to lubricate my chain as this appalling weather we’ve had has taken all the lube off my chain and caused a few rust spots to appear! Should I use something like WD40 before using the Tygris Motorcycle Chain Wax to clean up the chain and remove the rust or just go with the [...]
