  • Bikerchiq wrote a new blog post: So what EXACTLY is a modification?   2 weeks, 3 days ago · View

ThumbnailToday I took out a new policy for the Kawasaki EN500. I was asked whether she had any modifications. As far as I know she doesn’t – in my mind modifications are stuff like new performance enhancing tweaks like different exhausts, de-restricting engines, lowered suspensions or whatever. I have a car insurance working background and from [...]

  • Bikerchiq wrote a new blog post: Filtering – do you or don’t you?   2 months, 1 week ago · View

ThumbnailBikes are skinny right? One of their MAJOR advantages is they can do filtering – as in ‘Traffic Jam? What Traffic Jam?’ Exactly! So why, – what possible reason could there be for a biker on a country lane to be sitting there, behind a queue of slow moving traffic, behind a tractor? Nice sunny day, [...]

  • Bikerchiq commented on the blog post Have you had or witnessed a bike accident. How should you act?   2 months, 3 weeks ago · View

So would anyone think it odd, wierd or wrong for me to hold the biker’s hand til the ambulance got there? It was instinct at the time as I said because I am a mum and I don’t care how old you are it is nice to know there is someone there. I remember having [...]

  • ThumbnailHi all. I haven’t been on here for a while as I’ve been away doing other stuff but I thought I’d nip over here for a cuppa. Thought I’d tell you about an incident a month or so ago. I was at home on a sunny Tuesday morning when I heard loud groaning. Odd – I [...]

  • Bikerchiq commented on the blog post Blow to the Confidence   3 months ago · View

Hey. It will return. I saw a bike accident about a month back and it scared me. I was not involved I have to add. I am also a member of St John Ambulance and stopped to help the casualty. I find sometimes I ride like a girl for no reason at all but it [...]

  • Bikerchiq wrote a new blog post: Been away for a bit. – on TV next week   7 months, 1 week ago · View

ThumbnailHello everyone. I have been away from the site for a bit. I have had a LOT on and have been really busy. I have not been on the bike for a fair while as I have needed the car. I hope when this horrendous weather goes away I will be out and about again. In [...]

  • Bikerchiq wrote a new blog post: Hoggin’ The Bridge 2013 – Sunday October 20th 2013   11 months, 2 weeks ago · View

ThumbnailIs anyone doing the Hoggin’ the Bridge run this year? It would be interesting to see fellow KBB peeps there. This is a huge run with thousands of bikers and always great fun and it raises money for charity too. (See my previous post from last year for more details) .  Please let me know by replying here [...]

  • Bikerchiq wrote a new blog post: Help! My bike has not been ridden for almost a MONTH   1 year ago · View

ThumbnailI have a mammouth personal task right now. Unfortunately I am not able to do it with the bike so poor Hector remains in the garage. The last time I was out on the bike there was a spot of road rage.. from my (other) personal blog.. I was lucky (ahem) enough to be able to [...]

So… Carl…. be aware….. I have mates and there are many of us! ;)

  • Bikerchiq wrote a new blog post: The BEST way to upset a lady biker…   1 year, 1 month ago · View

ThumbnailI took the bike to work last week for the first time as it was too hot to walk. On seeing me carrying my lid into the office, my new boss said ‘I didn’t know you had a scooter!’ My mate said ‘ Uh oh !’ and visibly cringed. She knew what my reaction would be. I have [...]

  • Bikerchiq wrote a new blog post: Hairy legs are NOT a good substitute for leathers!   1 year, 2 months ago · View

ThumbnailHow many times have you seen a bloke out on a motorbike with just a pair of hairy legs for protection? (Or possibly a woman although I would hope not)! This fantastic weather has brought all the hairy legs out. I have seen all sorts sail past my window in shorts and t-shirt. From little mopeds [...]

  • Bikerchiq wrote a new blog post: I’ve got my bike back :)   1 year, 2 months ago · View

ThumbnailI have been bikeless for two whole weeks while the EN500 has been in the garage having a new exhaust custom made. They do not appear to make them any more for that model. Today I got the bike back HURAH! It does look rather foxy I have to say. It sounds different too – louder [...]

  • Bikerchiq wrote a new blog post: Biker Down – a course for bikers   1 year, 3 months ago · View

ThumbnailI went on a ‘Biker Down’ course. It sounded interesting. The fact that it was being run at a Fire Station by Firemen had NOTHING WHATSOEVER to do with my decision to go. The ‘Biker Down’ course is designed for those occasions when you are the first on scene at a bike accident. The course was [...]

  • Bikerchiq wrote a new blog post: Biker Individuality.   1 year, 3 months ago · View

ThumbnailAfter looking at pimping a bike with things like bike eyelashes and worse and deciding it was a bad idea, I was looking at other ways of expressing individuality. I am positive when and if my bike ever gets back on the road he would not allow me to put eyelashes on him. So what about [...]

Thank you galacticgreyhound for your comments.. I will look into this. I would definitely prefer to get this one fixed than have to get another bike. This one is almost family!

  • Bikerchiq wrote a new blog post: Hector – He’s DEAD Jim! :(   1 year, 3 months ago · View

ThumbnailThere was a BIG HUGE ENORMOUS BANG which spooked all the neighbours for streets around and now I fear the hole in the exhaust may be fatal. For the past year my poor Kawasaki EN500-A1 has been on the road most days. Usually we go on a round six mile journey to college and back although we [...]

One point (tongue-in-cheek), and one solution (genuine) Bikerchiq: Firstly, a bike has to be a ”she” as they can get uppity and suffer (as in your bike’s case) mental breakdown manifesting itself physically! Now a solution. For thirty years I’ve been using a product that can be purchased online or from a model or arts and crafts shop. It’s called Milliput and comes in about four different colours and is simplicity itself to use. There are two sticks of what looks like stiff putty. Take an equal amount of each – for your job I’d say about an inch. Roughly flatten each one with your hands then begin moulding them together, a process that will take a good five minutes or more; you’ll know when to stop when the colour becomes uniform, very, very soft and pliable, and very, very sticky! From this point, gently flatten it out (but not too thinly) beyond the actual size needed, press it over the hole and make sure its firmly stuck. Believe me, it will stick to anything. If you have any left over, use to fill the gaps I see near the exhaust end. It will take up to an hour to harden in moderate temperatures, but leave it overnight. Nothing will now take it off! It will stand very high and low temperatures, can be sanded, filed, drilled, tapped and painted, and will last longer than any bike!! I used it to mend my TomTom Satnav when the vibration tore the back of the unit clean off. If I hit it with a hammer it’s still likely not to shatter! Of course, it will only seal the hole; if the inside of the exhaust is rotten, the exercise is futile. Anyway, go onto Milliput online to read the gen. For about £3-£6 (depending on colour), it’s not a bad investment, and you can still use it for a hundred other jobs. Hope this helps.

  • Bikerchiq commented on the blog post A bike I never had Yamaha RD350 YPVS   1 year, 4 months ago · View

I think it was the ‘lightness’ of it that un-nerved me. I had a beast of a Superdream CB250N at the time and the 2 were at opposite ends of the spectrum. Also the seat was too narrow, the engine was too high pitched (I like deep and thumpy sounding engines). It was a cow [...]

  • Bikerchiq wrote a new blog post: Traffic Lights – Love or Hate or OCD??   1 year, 4 months ago · View

ThumbnailTraffic Lights. I hate them. There are no less than 18 sets of them on my daily three mile commute to college. At a guess, on average I only have to stop at about 45% of them. On a bad day it does feel as if I am waiting at the lights for longer than I [...]
