MATLOCK BATH

By Keep Britain Biking • 25th January 2012 • 57 views

A biking institution in the heart of the Peaks

Matlock Bath is one of the most popular destinations for bikers in the country. Known locally as ‘Derbyshire-on-sea’ the picturesque town has a wide range of attractions, foremost of which is it’s attractive promenade which offers bikers the perfect place to kick back and relax after a challenging ride-out.

Located in the heart of the Peak District and on the banks of the River Derwent, Matlock Bath is surrounded by some of the country’s finest biking terrain – with rugged moorland, winding roads and fast-flowing streams aplenty.

Matlock Bath has a great selection of motorcycle shops, arcades, cafes, chippies and much more, including some rather off-beat tourist attractions if you have a little more time on your hands (we’re especially fond of the Petrifying Well!)

It’s also a fantastic place to meet up with other bikers, especially on a Sunday or a Bank Holiday when large bike meets take over the centre of the town.

It certainly is a great place to be on a sunny day – however keep an eye out for traffic wardens, they are notoriously zealous and if you’re parked up for more than an hour you’re likely to be caught-out.

What do you think of Matlock Bath – is it as good as it ever was or have its glory days long since passed? Let us know (…and all this talk of ice cream and ride-outs has got us hankering for the sun – roll on summer!)

the derbyshire country side is stunning and the roads going out to matlock bath are great also. ive been going there since i started biking seeing all the different bikes and the age group off all the different peole young or old single or has a couple its is agreat place to meet and chat to different people from different back grounds all enjoying th e saame pleasures ( biking) when my son started to ride his first bike it was a good ride out for him learning about the different types of roads and traffic conditions. the only thing that spoils matlock bath is the traffic wardens you would think with all the money bikers bring into matlock that they would let bikers park there all day?

matlock bath iis definately one of my favourite rideout destinations, I lead rideouts for the club i belong to and every year i lead one there, i always get a good turnout of riders of all ages when i do. the roads are great between Bedford and Matlock, we have fun on the ride and a nice day when we get there, the biggest pronlem when we arrive is finding somewhere to park all the bikes in the same place, the fact you have to watch for traffic wardens is a pain. As Micheal says, the amount of revenue bikers bring to Matlock you would think the parking would be free.
